tbirds WOOO! Last night the T-birds played with great intensity against the Kelowna Rockets. The whole game was fractious and a fair number of penalties were called.

Seattle scored first, early in the first period, with a shorthanded goal by Prab Rai. He put the Birds up 2-1 later in the first period with a powerplay goal. I’ve accumulated a few baseball style caps – swag from work – that I’ve decided to start bringing to the rink in case of a hat trick. So we were totally rooting for Rai to score a third goal but alas, it was not to be.

I have a soft spot in my heart for the Rockets, because their team name and mascot are different from one another (my high school did too). Their mascot is a Loch Ness type creature that is a legendary monster in a lake near Kelowna.

Supposedly the T-birds had played ok but not great in a shutout loss the previous night to Everett, which is disappointing because Everett is right on our heels in the standings and if the season ended today, they’d be our first round opponent. Well, there are 9 games left in the season, two of which are against Everett.

This was the annual celebrity Hockey Challenge weekend too, to benefit the Ronald McDonald House. We stuck around for the first two periods, enduring painfully unfunny running “commentary” from Tom Arnold as always. Probably he got the worst of it out of the way early, when welcoming the patients to the ice for the ceremonial puck drop. He actually decided to leer, out loud, on the microphone, in the arena, that they had “hot moms”.
